Fall Clinic & Awards Lunch on Thursday 10/18

Fall Teacher Clinic, Awards & Luncheon at Capital Hill Magnet School on Thursday, October 18. Features presentations by Dr. Kirk Moss and Dr. Sonja Harasim.

  • Buffet lunch from Taste of Scandinavia: now $15 online or at the door
  • Clinic sessions:$25 for members; $35 for non-members.
  • Become a new ASTA member and get into the Clinic free! If you are a member and you bring a friend who joins as a new member, you both get in free!
  • Student members of ASTA get in free!
  • Clock Hours available: 1.5 hours (1 session), 3 hours (both sessions)

Upcoming Fall Events 2018

There are several events this fall for both students and teachers:
  • Fall String Camp - Fall String Camp, for students in grades 6–8, is held at Camp St. Croix in Hudson from 10/26 to 10/28/2018. Teachers are encouraged to attend with their students. Registration is now open! Student applications are due 10/9.
  • Fall Teacher Clinic, Awards & Luncheon - Features presentations by Dr. Kirk Moss and Sonja Harasim, and also honors our statewide Award Winning Teachers & String Community Members. 
  • Mary West Solo Competition - The Mary West Solo Competition is held annually in the fall for students of the violin, viola, cello, bass, harp and classical guitar. Participants are placed in 4 divisions depending on their age.
  • Middle Level Honors Orchestra - The Middle Level Honors Orchestra is for students in grades 7-9. Applications are open on October 12 & Due November 2. Selected students performance on 2/16/2019 at the Minneapolis Convention Center as part of the MMEA Midwinter Clinic.
  • Middle Level Orchestra Festival - The Middle Level Orchestra Festival is open to school age student orchestras composed exclusively of students in grades 6 through 9. MNSOTA is pleased to offer three sites for Tier 1. The application deadline for all sites is Friday, December 7, 2018.

NEW! Music Mentor Program

We are pleased to launch a new program to enable experienced mentors to sponsor string educators in the state, both in the classroom and private studio.  Funding from MNSOTA Board will assist mentors in their time and travel when sponsoring a teacher. Learn more about this exciting new program on our website - www.mnsota.org/mentoring

DISCOUNTED NEW STUDENT MEMBERSHIPS

To encourage new student memberships, MNSOTA will pay 50% of the first year's State/National dues. 

There are two ways to access this special subsidy.

1) Students should mail to the MNSOTA membership coordinator:

  • Their completed ASTA application form.
  • Copy of their current Student ID
  • A check for 50% of the dues, made out to ASTA.  The membership coordinator will forward the application, your check, and the remaining amount to ASTA.

2) Pay the full amount of the ASTA dues.  Send a copy of the confirmation email to the MNSOTA Membership Coordinator, and MNSOTA will reimburse you for 50% of your first year's dues.
