SPCO Youth Chamber Music Competition 2020-2021

We look forward to holding the competition again in early 2022

MNSOTA has formed a partnership with the SPCO Youth Chamber Music Competition.

General Info for last year -- we hope next year will be similar

Competition for students 19 years or younger, who are not enrolled in a college degree program, in chamber ensembles comprised of strings, brass, winds, percussion and/or piano.

Three Categories of competition:

Classical – Senior Division — Students 19 and under, who compete for the First, Second or Third Prize

Classical – Junior Division — Students 15 and under, who compete for the Junior Division Prize

Creative Division — Students of any age may compete for the Creative Prize


Classical: Any combination of the following instruments:

    Strings: violin, viola, cello, string bass, guitar, harp and piano

    Winds: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, brass, piano

Creative: Any instrument listed above, plus instruments such as banjo, mandolin, harmonica, maracas and accordion, or those played in national traditional music.

Important Dates:
• Between January/February, contestant ensembles may begin sending their uploaded videos and application materials. Click HERE to apply and upload videos. Late entries will not be accepted.
 Late February: All entering ensembles will be notified as to whether or not they have been selected to perform in the Finals. Critiques from judges will be sent to each ensemble’s coach or contact person.

 Mid-March: Live Competition Finals and Awards

In 2019-2020, there were prizes and awards for up to six ensembles.
